Texas IRP <\/span><\/h2>\n

The purpose of the IRP (International Registration Plan) is to allow motor carriers to operate interstate without the expense and inconvenience of trip permits for each state in which they travel. \u00a0The Texas IRP, also known as Apportioned registration, collects and disburses registration fees among the jurisdictions. Your base jurisdiction will take care of this aspect of IRP reporting for you.<\/span><\/p>\n

The following requirements must be met before you can claim Texas as your base or home jurisdiction:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The applicant must have an established place of business in Texas;<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. The applicant\u2019s fleet accrues mileage in the state, and;<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. All operational records are maintained and can be made available in Texas.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    An \u201cestablished place of business\u201d is defined as one that is a physical structure located within the base jurisdiction. \u00a0The business must be leased or owned by the applicant. Also, the business must be staffed and open during regular business hours by one or more persons employed by the applicant. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    IRP Texas Registration<\/span><\/h3>\n

    If this is your first time applying for an IRP registration on your vehicles, you should visit a local TxDMV Regional Service Center to set up an account. \u00a0Once that is completed, you can maintain your account online at TxIRP. If you do not have an online account, you can submit your registration application by mail. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    In March 2015, the state of Texas stopped issuing inspection stickers. \u00a0The new process, \u201cTwo Steps, One Sticker\u201d enables the cab card or registration receipt to serve as proof of registration and inspection. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    As with other states under the IRP agreement, Texas registration fees are calculated according to miles traveled in each jurisdiction. \u00a0Fees can be paid by check, cashier’s check, money order, or online via electronic check or credit card. <\/span><\/p>\n

    To apply for IRP permits, you are required to obtain a USDOT number and tax identification number for Motor Carrier Responsible for Safety (CFRS). \u00a0You should be prepared for a records review that is performed on all new registrants for apportioned plates. The review is done as a way of verifying that you understand the type of records that are required. \u00a0Refusal to participate in the review can result in the cancellation of your registration.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Texas IRP Renewal <\/span><\/h4>\n

    The IRP requires apportioned carriers to maintain detailed operational records that will be used when applying for a renewal. \u00a0You will find the renewal date listed on your cab card. Three months before the due date, you will receive a notice from the IRP along with information pertinent to renewing your IRP plate. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
