Prince Edward Island is one of the three Maritime provinces and the smallest province with respect to size and population. Currently to obtain an IFTA license you are required to submit a completed application to The Government of Prince Edward Island. The application fee is currently $25.00 with an additional $25.00 for each set of decals. Each qualified motor vehicle is required to have one set of decals at all times.<\/p>\n

Requirements for IFTA Prince Edward Island Licensing<\/span><\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve recently obtained your CDL, you need to know about the IFTA and how it applies to you as a driver. \u00a0First of all, congratulations! We know you\u2019re excited to get on the road and start building your business. So, if you plan to operate in two or more IFTA jurisdictions, you are required to apply for a license. \u00a0To obtain an <\/span>IFTA Prince Edward Island<\/span><\/a> license, you must meet a few qualifications as listed below.<\/span><\/p>\n

You can declare Prince Edward Island as your home (base) jurisdiction if:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Your business is based in Prince Edward Island and all operational controls and records are maintained in the province.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. You operate a qualified motor vehicle in Prince Edward Island and at least one other participating jurisdiction in Canada or the U.S.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    A qualified motor vehicle is one that:<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Is designed, maintained, and used to transport persons or property.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Has two axles and a GVW or registered vehicle weight exceeding 26,000 pounds.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Has three or more axles regardless of weight.<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. Is used in combination with a combined GVW or registered vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      If you meet the requirements, an IFTA license and two IFTA decals for each vehicle will be issued. \u00a0You can obtain additional decals if needed. You must carry a copy of the IFTA license inside each vehicle. \u00a0IFTA decals must be displayed on each side of the cab\u2019s exterior. <\/span><\/p>\n

      As an IFTA licensee, you\u2019re required to file quarterly fuel use tax reports with your base jurisdiction.\u00a0 Fortunately, you\u2019ll only need to file one report each quarter, and your base jurisdiction will disburse the taxes to the states or provinces where you drove. \u00a0The IFTA quarterly tax schedule is as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n

      Failure to comply with the above due dates can result in a penalty of 10% of the taxes due, or $50, whichever is greater. \u00a0You also stand a chance of having to park your truck until the payments are satisfied. <\/span><\/p>\n

      Renewing Your Prince Edward Island IFTA License<\/span><\/h3>\n

       <\/p>\n

      Your IFTA Prince Edward Island license will expire each year on December 31st. \u00a0To avoid any delays in receiving the IFTA sticker renewal, you should submit the renewal application before November 30th. \u00a0As mentioned above, all IFTA taxes must be up-to-date before you can obtain a current IFTA permit and decals.<\/span><\/p>\n
