is located in the Appalachian region of the United States and is currently home to about 2 million people. To obtain an IFTA license in West Virginia you must submit an application and send it to the Department of Motor Vehicles. There is currently no charge for an application, however a $5 decal fee is assessed. Each qualified vehicle is required to have one set of decals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Requirements for IFTA West Virginia Licensing<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">West Virginia joined the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) along with 47 other U.S. member states and 10 Canadian provinces. IFTA was formed to simplify the process of fuel tax collection and disbursement. If you operate in the trucking industry in West Virginia, the new IFTA regulations may apply to you. \u00a0To determine whether you qualify for an IFTA West Virginia license, you must meet a number of guidelines. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You are eligible for a West Virginia IFTA license if your business is based in this state and maintains all operational controls and records here. You must also accrue mileage in West Virginia and at least one other IFTA member jurisdiction. Additionally, your motor vehicle must qualify. A qualifying motor vehicle is one that has:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A GVW or registered weight that exceeds 26,000 pounds, or;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Has three or more axles regardless of weight, or;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Is used in combination when GVW, or registered weight of said combination exceeds 26,000 pounds.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Once you\u2019ve determined whether you qualify, you will need to submit an IFTA sticker application. Once approved, you will receive your IFTA license and IFTA decals. A copy of the license must be kept in each vehicle in your fleet. Additionally, each IFTA decal must be affixed to each side of the exterior of the cab.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You will also be responsible keeping track of all fuel expenses and miles accrued while traveling in each jurisdiction. This information will be required to fill out your quarterly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.truckingoffice.com\/ifta\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">IFTA fuel tax<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> reports. These reports should be filed by the following deadlines:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<th colspan=\"2\">\n<h3>Quarterly IFTA Due Dates<\/h3>\n<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Q1<\/b> January &#8211; March<\/td>\n<td>April 30<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Q2<\/b> April &#8211; June<\/td>\n<td>July 31<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Q3<\/b> July &#8211; September<\/td>\n<td>October 31<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Q4<\/b> October &#8211; December<\/td>\n<td>January 31<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<div class=\"et-fb-loader\" style=\"margin-bottom: 40px\"><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You must be sure to file these reports by their respective deadlines, or you will be subject to a penalty of $50 or 10% of total taxes due, whichever is greater. Failing to file or pay taxes on time may prevent the renewal of your IFTA license.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Renewing Your West Virginia IFTA License<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">IFTA licenses in West Virginia are issued for one year and expire on each December 31st. You are advised to submit the renewal application before November 30th to avoid any delays in receiving your renewal. \u00a0West Virginia allows a grace period to receive your renewal license, which extends into February of the following year.
