Located in the easternmost province of Canada is Newfoundland and Labrador with a population of about 500,000 people. To obtain an IFTA license in this province you will need to submit an application to The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. You are also able to purchase a fuel tax permit that cost $150.00 per trip.<\/p>\n

Requirements for IFTA Newfoundland Licensing<\/span><\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

Under the International Fuel Tax Agreement, Newfoundland truckers are required to obtain an IFTA license or permit if they operate a qualified motor vehicle within Newfoundland and at least one other IFTA member jurisdiction. \u00a0If you are new to the trucking industry, you\u2019ll need to know if your business and your vehicle qualify for a permit under the <\/span>IFTA Newfoundland<\/span><\/a> licensing guidelines. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Newfoundland will be your base jurisdiction if all of your motor carrier operational controls and records are maintained and can be made available in this province. \u00a0Your vehicle must meet the following criteria if you wish to obtain an IFTA license:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The vehicle is designed, maintained, and used for transporting persons or property among IFTA jurisdictions.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. The vehicle has two axles and a gross vehicle weight or registered weight exceeding 26,000 pounds, or has three axles regardless of weight, or has a combination weight that exceeds 26,000 pounds. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    According to iftach.org, there are no vehicle exemptions allowed in Newfoundland. \u00a0Other jurisdictions allow exemptions for government-owned vehicles, recreational vehicles that are not associated with any business enterprise, and some buses. \u00a0More information about other exemptions can be found <\/span>here<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

    When you receive your IFTA permit and IFTA decals, remember to keep a copy of the license inside each vehicle in your fleet. \u00a0You will also receive two decals for each vehicle you operate. Place one decal on each side of the cab\u2019s exterior. <\/span><\/p>\n

    IFTA licensees are required to submit quarterly fuel use tax reports according to the due dates below:<\/span><\/p>\n
