is located in the New England region of the United States and has a population of about 1 million people. In order to obtain an IFTA license you must submit and IFTA License Application to the Rhode Island Division of Taxation. Currently the application fee is $10 and each set of decals is an additional $10. Each qualified motor vehicle that operates in an IFTA jurisdiction is required to have one set of decals. You will receive you IFTA Fuel Tax Form in the mail 30 days prior to their respected due dates.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">State Requirements IFTA Rhode Island Licensing<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) was created to streamline fuel use tax reporting and disbursement. \u00a0Members of the IFTA include all 48 contiguous states in the U.S. as well as 10 Canadian provinces. You can file an IFTA license application online or print the form and submit it by mail. \u00a0There are a number of qualifications you must meet in order to obtain an IFTA license for Rhode Island. In order to obtain an IFTA license, you must submit an IFTA license application to the Rhode Island Division of Taxation. Application fees are currently set at $10 with an additional fee of 10$ for each set of decals. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To be considered a qualified vehicle, your vehicle must be one that is designed, maintained, and used to transport persons or property, as well as meet the following stipulations:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Has two axles and a GVW or registered GVW that exceeds 26,000 pounds, or<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Is used in combination when the weight of such combination is more than 26,000 pounds GVW or registered GVW, or<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Has three axles, regardless of weight.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rhode Island is your base jurisdiction if you register your vehicles in the state, maintain operational control and records in the state, and accrue mileage in the state. \u00a0If your application for a license is approved, you\u2019ll receive one license and two <\/span><a href=\"..\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">IFTA decals<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for each registered vehicle. \u00a0All vehicles licensed under your IFTA license must carry a copy of the license inside the cab and must also affix one IFTA decal to each side of the cab\u2019s exterior.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As an IFTA licensee, your quarterly fuel use taxes are due as follows: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<th colspan=\"2\">\n<h3>Quarterly IFTA Due Dates<\/h3>\n<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Q1<\/b> January &#8211; March<\/td>\n<td>April 30<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Q2<\/b> April &#8211; June<\/td>\n<td>July 31<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Q3<\/b> July &#8211; September<\/td>\n<td>October 31<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Q4<\/b> October &#8211; December<\/td>\n<td>January 31<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<div class=\"et-fb-loader\" style=\"margin-bottom: 40px\"><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Failing to file your quarterly fuel tax reports can result in a fine of 10% of the total taxes due or 50$, whichever is greater. Keep in mind that delinquent filing or payments can interfere with renewing your IFTA license and decals. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Renewing Your Rhode Island IFTA License<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your IFTA sticker and permit expire each year on December 31st. Rhode Island IFTA provides an IFTA sticker grace period, which extends into February of the following year, in the event you have not received your replacement license by the expiry date. During this time, your previous license and IFTA decals must still be kept in all vehicles. You will receive your IFTA Fuel Tax Form in the mail 30 days prior to their respective due dates. To avoid any delays or penalties, you should submit your IFTA license application before November 30th.
