Located in the Southern United States is Mississippi, also known as “The Magnolia State” and currently has a population of about 3 million. In order to receive an IFTA License you will need to submit a IFTA License Application from the Mississippi Department of Revenue, Petroleum Tax Division. Currently there is no charge for an IFTA sticker application or IFTA decals.<\/p>\n

State Requirements Mississippi IFTA Licensing<\/span><\/h2>\n

You\u2019ve made it through driving school, earned your CDL, and are ready to get on the road. \u00a0Congratulations! This is an exciting and challenging career, and you\u2019ll enjoy the adventure of the open road. \u00a0Before you get started, there are some things you need to know about IFTA Mississippi licensing requirements. <\/span><\/p>\n

The International Fuel Tax Agreement was created to organize and simplify the reporting and distribution of highway fuel taxes. \u00a0The U.S. Government and members of the trucking industry agreed there should be a more efficient way to file and distribute the taxes paid by interstate carriers. Today, the IFTA consists of 58 member jurisdictions\u2014 48 states in the U.S. and 10 Canadian provinces. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So, who needs an IFTA sticker and permit? A base jurisdiction is where your qualified motor vehicle(s) are based for registration purposes, and the operational controls of the business are maintained. \u00a0If Mississippi is your base jurisdiction and you travel interstate among one or more member jurisdictions with a qualified motor vehicle, you are required to apply for an IFTA license. \u00a0You\u2019ll find the vehicle qualifications listed <\/span>here<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

There is a long list of IFTA exemptions and non-IFTA states where truckers do not have to pay fuel taxes in some instances. \u00a0Those exemptions can be found <\/span>here<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The IFTA also requires truckers to file quarterly fuel use taxes. \u00a0Failure to file or pay by the due date can incur a penalty of 10% of the total taxes due, or $50, whichever is more. \u00a0It can also interfere with renewing your license. The IFTA quarterly fuel tax schedule is as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n

When you receive your IFTA Mississippi license, you\u2019ll also get two IFTA decals for each vehicle in your fleet. \u00a0The decals must be affixed to each side of the cab\u2019s exterior. If the IFTA decals or stickers are lost or destroyed, you can apply for replacement decals at an additional cost. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Renewing Your Mississippi IFTA License<\/span><\/h3>\n

Mississippi IFTA licenses are valid for one year, expiring on December 31st. \u00a0You should submit the renewal application before November 30th to avoid any delays in getting your renewal and decals. \u00a0A grace period is granted through February to allow time for your IFTA decals to arrive and be displayed. However, this doesn\u2019t mean you have until then to apply. \u00a0The grace period only applies if you have submitted your renewal application on time.<\/span><\/p>\n
