Minnesota or “The Gopher State” is located in the Midwestern United States and is home to a little over 5 million people. In order to obtain an IFTA license in Minnesota you must contact the DVS IFTA office or one of the 10 deputy registrar offices. There is currently a $28 annual filing charge and an additional $2.50 for each set of decals. You are required to have one set of decals for each vehicle.<\/p>\n

IFTA Stickers Application<\/h2>\n

Whether you are new to the trucking industry, or a long-time pro, you\u2019ll have questions about IFTA sticker requirements. \u00a0Some of the most pertinent information is provided below to help you understand what is required for IFTA Minnesota licensing. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To obtain your IFTA permits, you must first show that your business is based in the state and that you will operate among one or more interstate IFTA member jurisdictions. \u00a0Next, you must determine that your vehicle qualifies. The IFTA defines a qualified motor vehicle as \u2018one that is designed, used, and maintained for transporting persons or property.\u2019 \u00a0Your vehicle must also meet the following qualifications:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. A qualified vehicle must have two or more axles and GVW or registered weight exceeding 26,000 pounds, and\/or;<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Have three or more axles regardless of weight, and\/or;<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Be used in combination with GVW or registered GVW exceeding 26,000 pounds<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The IFTA was created to simplify the reporting and disbursement of fuel use taxes. \u00a0Truckers must submit quarterly tax forms to their base jurisdiction before the due dates shown here:<\/span><\/p>\n

    IFTA Sticker Renewal<\/h3>\n

     <\/p>\n

    IFTA Minnesota licenses are valid for one year and expire on December 31st. \u00a0To obtain a renewal, you must be up-to-date with all quarterly fuel use taxes. \u00a0When the license is renewed, you will receive two IFTA decals that must be displayed on the exterior of the vehicle\u2019s cab, one for each side. \u00a0You are also required to keep a copy of the license in each vehicle that you operate. <\/span><\/p>\n

    To avoid any delays in getting the renewals on time, you should apply before November 30 as it takes about 14 days to process an application. \u00a0The IFTA allows a two-month grace period that extends through February for renewal stickers to be displayed. If decals are lost or destroyed, you can apply for an IFTA sticker<\/a> replacement at an additional cost. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
