In Florida, if you are qualified for IFTA you can choose to apply for a license or purchase fuel trip permits to travel into or through the state. The temporary fuel permit costs $45. Understanding the IFTA rules and regulations can be a challenge when filing a Florida IFTA license application. We offer the following information to help clear up some of the main components. <\/span><\/p>\nAccording to <\/span>flhsmv.gov<\/span><\/a>, Florida is your base jurisdiction if you meet the following requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n\n- Motor carrier operations are performed from an established place of business in Florida.<\/span><\/li>\n
- You maintain and can make available the operational control and records for qualified motor vehicles in Florida.<\/span><\/li>\n
- You have qualified motor vehicles that travel on Florida highways and are based in Florida.<\/span><\/li>\n
- You operated in at least one other IFTA jurisdiction.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Base State IFTA Requirements & IFTA Stickers<\/span><\/h3>\n <\/p>\n
A qualified motor vehicle is one that is used, designed, or maintained for the transportation of persons or property, and:<\/span><\/p>\n\n- Has two (2) axles and a gross vehicle weight or registered gross weight of more than 26,000 pounds.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Has three (3) or more axles regardless of weight.<\/span><\/li>\n
- When used in combination, the weight exceeds 26,000 pounds.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Vehicles that are exempt from registration under the IFTA include (1) recreational vehicles not used in any business endeavors, and (2) government-owned vehicles.\u00a0After filing or renewal, IFTA will send you an\u00a0IFTA sticker<\/a> and IFTA permits\u00a0via mail.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
How to Renew Your IFTA Stickers<\/span><\/h3>\n <\/p>\n
This is a summary of the guidelines for renewing your Florida IFTA license. \u00a0(More detailed information is available on flhsmv.gov.):<\/span><\/p>\n\n- All outstanding taxes and penalties must be paid. \u00a0You cannot process delinquent tax returns at the walk-in counter.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Your 3rd quarter tax return has been filed and payments made.<\/span><\/li>\n
- If you don\u2019t have a Florida IRP account, you must have IFTA qualified vehicles registered in the state.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Florida can limit the number of IFTA decals issued on your account. \u00a0Additional documentation may be required to support the number of decals you can receive.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Your license will not be renewed if you have filed IFTA tax returns indicating \u201cno operations\u201d or \u201cFlorida miles only\u201d for 3 or more consecutive quarters.<\/span><\/li>\n
- You must maintain detailed records of mileage and individual fuel purchases that support the mileage and tax paid purchases shown on your quarterly IFTA tax return.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
