Delaware or otherwise known as “The Small Wonder” is the second smallest state in the U.S with a population of about 900,000 people. Delaware requires that all IFTA qualified vehicles submit an application that can be received from the Delaware Motor Carrier Service. The current charge for an IFTA application is $5 dollars.<\/p>\n

Delaware became a member of the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) effective July 1, 1996. \u00a0This agreement in Delaware is administered by the Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Transportation. The IFTA is an agreement that enforces efficient fuel tax reporting and disbursement. \u00a0If Delaware is your base jurisdiction, you will be required to file an <\/span>IFTA Delaware application<\/b>. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nIf you\u2019re new to the trucking industry, the IFTA rules and regulations can be confusing. \u00a0Let\u2019s take a look at some of the main points of the agreement and hopefully give you a better idea of what is required. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nFirst, you need to know if your vehicle qualifies for an IFTA permit. \u00a0The IFTA defines a qualified motor vehicle as one that has two or three axles with a GVW or registered weight exceeding 26,000 pounds; or one that has three or more axles regardless of weight; or a combination weight exceeding 26,000 pounds. \u00a0The vehicle must be designed, used, or maintained for transportation of persons or property. <\/span><\/p>\nNext, you will need to file the IFTA application. \u00a0We have included the link to the form in the checklist below. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nYour next step is to keep track of all fuel purchased and used in the jurisdictions where you drove during the specified quarter. \u00a0You will be required to submit a Delaware IFTA Fuel Tax Form each quarter by the date designated to avoid penalties or fines.
