is located in northern-central United States and is currently holding a population of about 6 million. In Wisconsin to obtain an IFTA license you must submit an application to the Department of Transportation. There is an application fee of $15, a $3.00 license fee and a $2.00 per set charge for your decals. Each qualified vehicle is required to have one set of decals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">State Requirements IFTA Wisconsin Licensing<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The International Fuel Tax Agreement was created to organize and simplify the reporting and distribution of highway fuel taxes. \u00a0Both the trucking industry and the U.S. government felt there should be a more efficient way to file and disburse fuel taxes paid by interstate carriers. Today, the IFTA consists of 58 member jurisdictions\u2014 48 states in the U.S. and 10 Canadian provinces. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A base jurisdiction is where your qualified motor vehicle(s) are registered and the operational controls of the business are maintained. \u00a0If Wisconsin is your base jurisdiction and you travel interstate among one or more member jurisdictions with a qualified motor vehicle, you are required to apply for a Wisconsin IFTA license. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Qualified motor vehicles operating in more than one IFTA jurisdiction must obtain a license and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.truckingoffice.com\/ifta\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">IFTA decals<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that allow them to travel between member jurisdictions. \u00a0IFTA Wisconsin defines a qualified vehicle as one that is designed, maintained, and used to transport persons or property. Additionally, vehicles must meet the following stipulations:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Has two axles and a GVW or registered GVW that exceeds 26,000 pounds, or;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Is used in combination when the weight of such combination is more than 26,000 pounds GVW or registered GVW, or;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Has three axles, regardless of weight.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Upon approval of your application, you will receive one IFTA license and two IFTA decals for each vehicle in your fleet. You must keep a copy of the license in each vehicle, as well has one IFTA decal affixed to each side of the exterior of the cab.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Quarterly fuel use taxes for Wisconsin IFTA members are due as follows: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<th colspan=\"2\">\n<h3>Quarterly IFTA Due Dates<\/h3>\n<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Q1<\/b> January &#8211; March<\/td>\n<td>April 30<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Q2<\/b> April &#8211; June<\/td>\n<td>July 31<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Q3<\/b> July &#8211; September<\/td>\n<td>October 31<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Q4<\/b> October &#8211; December<\/td>\n<td>January 31<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you fail to file before the due date, you can be fined 10% of the total taxes due, or $50, whichever is greater. \u00a0Late filing or payments can interfere with renewing your IFTA license.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Renewing Your Wisconsin IFTA License<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your IFTA license is issued for one year only, expiring each year on December 31st. To avoid delays or penalties, you should submit your application for IFTA license renewal before November 30th. If you have not received your renewal license by the expiry date, Wisconsin IFTA offers an IFTA sticker grace period which extends through February of the coming year. However, you must have applied for your renewal on time. During that time, your IFTA license and decals must be displayed until you receive your renewals.
