New Jersey or “The Garden State” is located in the Northeastern part of The United States and is currently home to nearly 9 million people. To receive your New Jersey IFTA license you must submit an application along with proof of principal place of business to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. All credentials from New Jersey are updated on an annual basis. Decals are currently $10 and each qualified vehicle is required to have one set. All IFTA Fuel Tax Forms will be mailed out 30 days prior to their respected due date.<\/p>\n

State Requirements IFTA New Jersey Licensing<\/span><\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

New Jersey is one of the 48 states in the U.S. that has joined the International Fuel Tax Agreement.\u00a0 So, who needs an IFTA sticker and permit? As a trucker in the state, you need to know how the <\/span>IFTA New Jersey<\/span><\/a> rules apply to you and your business. \u00a0First, you must determine whether you qualify for an IFTA license. \u00a0If your business is based in New Jersey and all operational controls and records are maintained and can be made available in the state, you are eligible to apply for IFTA permits. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, you must show that your vehicle(s) meet the requirements established by the IFTA. For instance, a qualifying vehicle is defined as one that is designed, maintained, and used for transporting people or property. \u00a0Each vehicle must also meet the following stipulations:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Two axles and a GVW of more than 26,000 pounds, or<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Three or more axles regardless of weight, or<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. A combination GVW that exceeds 26,000 pounds.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    When you receive your IFTA license and two IFTA decals, place one decal on each side of the cab\u2019s exterior and keep a copy of the license in each cab. \u00a0If your decals are lost, stolen, or damaged, an IFTA sticker replacement can be obtained at additional cost.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The purpose of the IFTA is to provide a more efficient method for collecting and disbursing fuel use taxes among member jurisdictions. \u00a0If you are based in New Jersey and will travel through one or more other member jurisdictions, you will be required to maintain records of all fuel purchased and used in each jurisdiction on your route. \u00a0\u00a0This information will be included on your quarterly IFTA fuel use tax reports. The quarterly due dates are:<\/span><\/p>\n

    Keep these dates in mind because failure to file on time can result in a fine of 10% of the total tax liability due or $50, whichever is greater. \u00a0Tax delinquency can also prevent the renewal of your IFTA permit. <\/span><\/p>\n

    Renewing Your New Jersey IFTA License<\/span><\/h3>\n

    Your New Jersey IFTA license must be renewed annually as they expire on December 31st each year. \u00a0To avoid delays in receiving the renewal, you must submit the application before November 30th. You must also be compliant or up-to-date with all IFTA fuel use taxes before your IFTA sticker application can be approved.<\/span><\/p>\n
