Regarding the Texas IFTA, you are required to complete the Texas Application and submit it to the Comptroller of Public Accounts. Texas requires that all miles traveled in Texas including both highway and off-highway travel are reported as taxable miles. Texas does not accept annual filings. Texas has no fees for IFTA license or decals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">State Requirements IFTA Texas Licensing<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Texas joined the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) along with 47 other states and 10 Canadian provinces. IFTA was created to simplify the process of recording, collecting and disbursing fuel taxes among jurisdictions. If your vehicle(s) qualifies and operates in more than one IFTA jurisdiction, you must obtain a license and IFTA decals, which allow you to travel between member jurisdictions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">First, you must determine whether your vehicle(s) qualify. A qualified vehicle is one that is designed, maintained, and used to transport persons or property, and meets the following stipulations:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Has two axles and a GVW or registered GVW that exceeds 26,000 pounds, or;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Is used in combination when the weight of such combination is more than 26,000 pounds GVW or registered GVW, or;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Has three axles, regardless of weight.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If your vehicle(s) is registered in Texas, has established operation control and records in the state, and accrues mileage there, Texas is your base jurisdiction. You will need to apply for a Texas IFTA license. Once your application for a license is approved, you\u2019ll receive one license and two <\/span><a href=\"..\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">IFTA decals<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for each registered vehicle. \u00a0Every vehicle in your fleet must keep a copy of the license in the cab, as well as one IFTA decal displayed on each side of the cabs exterior. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As an IFTA licensee, your quarterly fuel use taxes are due as follows: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<th colspan=\"2\">\n<h3>Quarterly IFTA Due Dates<\/h3>\n<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Q1<\/b> January &#8211; March<\/td>\n<td>April 30<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Q2<\/b> April &#8211; June<\/td>\n<td>July 31<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Q3<\/b> July &#8211; September<\/td>\n<td>October 31<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Q4<\/b> October &#8211; December<\/td>\n<td>January 31<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Failing to file by the due dates may result in a fine of 10% of the total taxes due, or $50, whichever amount is greater. Additionally, late filings or payments may result in delay or interference when renewing your IFTA sticker. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Renewing Your Texas IFTA License<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Each year on December 31st, your IFTA license and decals expire. \u00a0If your renewal license was filed late or if there are delays, Texas allows for a grace period until February of the following year to receive the renewal license. Your current IFTA license and decals may remain displayed during the IFTA sticker grace period, however. \u00a0To avoid any delays or penalties, you should submit your IFTA license application before November 30th. If you are not compliant with all IFTA fuel use taxes, your application will not be approved. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Texas gives IFTA members the option to file their renewal license electronically, as well as to pay online using our IFTA Web File.
